Paul Kanner received this tattoo as a gift from a Marquesan friend on his recent trip to Nuku Hiva. It is a traditional representation of a manta that incorporated signs for good luck and warrior.

This is a tattoo of Onchorhynchus rastrosus, the sabre tooth salmon. The critter lived in Pacific waters 10 million years ago, averaging 400 pounds and 9 feet long. The presence of gill rakers suggested a planktivorous lifestyle, similar to Pinks. Mating rituals must have been exciting with those fangs! I am fascinated with the complex life cycle of salmon, as well as the diverse array of habitats they are able to occupy. Ray Troll's fantastic depiction of this beastie became my template for this tattoo.

I had this tattoo done May 2013. It is a Magnapinna, better known as a Big Fin Squid. I love how mysterious and unknown this creature is. I plan on making a deep sea creature leg sleeve since I work offshore.
